Okay, with the section of my staying healthy for the long run page, I don’t want to come off as a guru or a self improvement coach. The truth is, a lot of this mindset stuff really does help. You can learn a lot from all these self-improvement writers, as you can apply this to us staying in shape, working out, and reaching the goals in your life.
First of all, I don’t mean to say that if you believe it, things will happen. Yes, this part of it, but that’s only the beginning. Visualizing things, seeing things happening in the future, and planning things out, are all perfect way to start things off in order to achieve your goals. However, the most important part of this is to take action!
The majority people out there who want to stay in shape and lose weight unfortunately don’t take action. It is so important, that no matter how much you learn, read, and watch about all the self improvement stuff, nothing will happen unless you take the first step. Think of it like driving a car. You have a map, have an idea of where you want to go, you may have gas in your tank, and you may be really pumped about this trip. Nevertheless, if you don’t start the engine and shift out of park, you won’t get anywhere.
So do you see where I’m going with this?
Don’t get me wrong. It’s not a bad thing to keep reading and learning about losing weight, working out, and self-improvement. You need those things, in order to enrich your mind and give you a good idea of what things are right for you. Then through taking action, you get some experience and learn how to take all these principles that you read about and apply them to your own needs.
It’s all about trying things and failing constantly. Yes, it’s frustrating and sometimes you feel you won’t see any improvements at all, but as long as you’re continually hacking away at things and learning from your mistakes, you WILL see light at the end of the tunnel. You need that kind of persistence and consistency to really make something of yourself. Sometimes you’ll feel like giving up. Actually, many times you’ll feel like giving up. Still, training your mind to not falter in these kinds of situations will only make you a stronger individual for now and for the future.
You won’t change overnight, so think of this as a gradual improvement. Take baby steps. Every day, do one small things towards improving your mindset. This baby steps approach can be applied to your fitness journey as well. For example, you’re going to burn yourself out by training 5 or 6 days a week just as you start. That’s the same deal if you were to try to eat 100% clean for an entire year. With the exercise, you should only do something like 3 days a week and ease into adding tougher workouts and more workout days. As for the eating, you can gradually eliminate different food that isn’t bad for you. If you were to cut the junk cold turkey at the very beginning, there’s a very high chance that you won’t last too long with your nutrition. Don’t think of this as a “diet.” Rather, think of your improvement in nutrition as a lifestyle change. It’s something that you want to be able to sustain for a long time rather than hitting things hard for a month or two until you reach your goals. That kind of approach will probably send you back to square one if you choose not to be as strict with your health.
A lot of things will be holding you back when you want to get into the – if your life. First of all, you’ll say that it’s too hard to lose weight, that it’s because you have certain genes that you can’t lose weight, or that’s too hard to work out. Stop being so negative! It’s easy to get caught up in negative self talk constantly putting yourself down. Instead, you want to talk positively to yourself as you’re thinking about these things.
You going to encounter a lot of rough bones in his weight loss journey. For example, in workouts, you will hit a brick wall where you feel like you can’t progress any further or you can’t seem to run that last quarter of a mile in your run. Things like this happen. It’s your job in order to get past these obstacles. And believe it or not, a lot of these are all in your head. So once you get the right mindset, training yourself constantly everyday, you’ll be able to get over these things through my power alone.
I’m top of that, if you try out cross fit, which is a very top and demanding workout program, you’ll encounter many many, many, many times where you’ll feel that workout is impossible that’s why it’s important to have the right mindset for getting into shape. These workouts will test you like no other, and you may feel like garbage after and even during a workout, they’ll be so good for you in the end.
Honestly, as long as you stick with it, you will see success. Just like in this book that I read recently called the slight edge, it’s all about being consistent. What you need to do is just keep hacking away at it even though it may have seen your making large gains right off the bat. To show up every day, eat right when you should, and just keep falling what you supposed to do. It’s not going to be the easiest of journeys out there. That’s why you must want this bad. You are not like everyone else out there. Most people will fail at this, but since you’re on this blog, I know you have the desire not to fail.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of your success stories.
