This is the best fast food Mexican joint you’ve probably never heard about. To my knowledge, they’re only found in a few spots on the west coast and the east coast. Think Chipotle but with more choices. Chipotle pretty much sticks to the basics and makes your food right in front of you. La Lalsa is more of a traditional fast food restaurant where you just wait off to the side for your food.
Why La Salsa deserves to be part of this list is because it’s cheap, REALLY FAST, and of course, the food is really good. The beautiful thing about the variety on this menu is you can find some really heavy, Carbicide Saturday meals here while also finding something that could definitely pass for Paleo if you want to eat clean on the go.
I’ve been going to this place since high school, and ever since, I always find myself going back there as my college is also in the same town, so it’s a great place to catch up with friends with everyone else is in the area.
For Carbicide Saturdays, I would definitely go with something like the nachos. For around $5, you get a full platter of nachos with the usual fixings like guac, beans, lettuce sour cream, and cheddar cheese. You also have your choice of chicken or steak chili to add onto the mix. Either meat solution is great, unless you’re a vegetarian. You can also try things like their burritos (the bigger the better), tacos, and quesadillas. I’ll admit that I’m not a big fan of their taquitos. For those of you who don’t know, they’re basically tortilla rolled up with chicken or beef inside. That’s really the only thing I don’t like at La Salsa.
Okay, now what if you’re eating clean? Go with something like a taco salad. Everything in it is okay to eat, unless you have to go really strict for Paleo requirements. In that case, you would have to remove the corn, beans, sour cream, and cheese. Oh and you can’t have any of the tortilla bowl…
What I learned recently for a purely Paleo meal there, just go with the fresca salad. It’s pretty much everything in the taco salad minus some of the non-Paleo ingredients like the taco bowl and corn.
If you happen to be in the area of a La Salsa, I highly recommend the place. I don’t know what my life would be without that kind of Mexican food. While Chipotle is a really banging experience with some awesome food wherever you go, La Salsa is special in its own way. Despite both being Mexican fast food restaurants, it feels like comparing apples to oranges. You’ll have to check things out and decide for yourself.
