Fun Food

So why do I have these pages if my goal is to get into the best shape of my life? Well, I’ve always been a fan of food. This section will be about my favorite fast food, including McDonalds, Subway, Wendys, Five Guys Burgers, Dominos Pizza, and a place you’ve probably never heard of before, La Salsa. Back in my college days, I hit up these fast food places quite often, although not as much as my peers would. I was pretty good with my money, and I had enough discipline in me not to be reliant upon fast food for basically every meal. Yes, the convenience is there, but I was always someone who enjoyed cooking their own meals with time permitting.

I Love Fast Food

It saved me money over time and was just much better for my health, even though I wasn’t really taking care of myself too well while I was in school.

I know as a fact that it’s still possible to stay healthy while eating fast food every once in a while. Back when I read Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Body book, I tried out eating clean for a bit with one big cheat meal (or should I say day lol) at one point in the week. Despite what people said or though, I still managed to lose weight and get into pretty decent shape.

Unfortunately, my discipline went down the drain and I constantly gave into eating bad things. I had the mentality that “Oh it’s okay to have this once in a while,” yet that “once in a while” turned into something like every other day.

Not good.

I need to get back to where I was before and surpass that, so I’ll take the baby steps necessary. Hopefully you’ll learn a thing or two as I blog about it.

For each of these Fun Food pages, I’ll write about how you can still stay healthy eating fast food if you’re in a rush or on the go, in addition to the meals at their restaurants I absolutely enjoy for those ultimate cheat meals. When I say “ultimate”, I really mean it. Whenever I go for cheat meals, I go all out, as it seems so fun and enjoyable at first.

See, it’s like a psychological thing for me. I think it’s awesome to binge like that, then once I get all full, I realize that I feel like garbage. My body looks all bloated in the mirror. My confidence dips. Overall, it’s not a good feeling and I’d much rather focus on eating healthy and staying in shape. That’s why I go for those binges, as they won’t ruin my diet and prevent me from achieving my goals, but eating like this will make me realize that this isn’t the kind of lifestyle for me.

So this time around, I’m going to take this approach again. I’ll eat extremely clean throughout the week, yet on Saturdays once my workout is done, I’m going to have some fun with what I eat and have a few drinks here and there as well. Those “Carbicide Saturdays” are what I look forward to every week. In each page of this section, I’ll list some of the food I’m definitely having on my binge day.

Life’s too short. You can’t deny yourself of the fun things in your life. As long as you eat this fast food in moderation, it’s all good. Too much of anything isn’t good for you, just as not enough of something isn’t right. The only person who can find that perfect balance in yourself. Everyone’s body is different, and we all have various levels of tolerance towards unhealthy food. Only through testing, experimenting, and basic tracking can you find out what works best for you.

I see enjoying food like this as an escape. Back when I used to go hardcore strict with my diets, I felt withdrawals from the food I grew up with. Food is just so important in my life. Growing up in a family with a humble background, we didn’t have much, but food was always something we had enough of. That’s why we didn’t want to waste or throw away any food that was still good.

Having that kind of mentality towards food and that kind of upbringing has been a privilege. I am grateful for having these things in my life. However, these things make eating totally clean a struggle for me. That’s where the binge of the week comes into play to keep me in a good mental condition when it comes to what I eat. I think of that Saturday of fun eating as a way to reset my week. It’s like a feel refreshed and ready to attack another week of continuous training and proper eating.

On top of that, it’s fun thinking about all the different food I can eat and the crazy amounts I can digest. Despite being a small guy, I can eat a lot. And I mean A LOT.

As much as I love fast food, I’m going to find that perfect balance. Follow my blog to see how I do in this journey.
