Enjoying McDonalds Nutrition and Subway Nutrition

While staying healthy of course :)

Hey everyone, this is the FitFastFoodie and I’m all about staying in shape, WHILE enjoying the McDonalds nutrition and Subway nutrition we’ve all grown to love. What I want to show you all on my blog is it’s okay to eat fast food. I love this kind of foods as I was a former fat kid, so I go way back with all those burgers and sandwiches. By the way, I am in NO WAY affiliated with McDonald’s, Subway, or any other fast food place. This is my own person blog.

Finding the Right Balance with McDonalds Nutrition

It took me YEARS to figure out how to find the right balance for myself. I was pretty overweight until the end of high school, which was when I started working out at the gym near my house. At the same time, I was really strict with my diet, although I’ll admit that I was basically starving myself at the time and pushing for way too much cardio and not enough muscle building with a sound, weightlighting plan.

However, I saw results with what I did. Sure, it wasn’t the healthiest thing to do, but I managed to lose about close to 40 pounds going into my senior year of high school.

Inspired by Jared’s Subway Nutrition Plan

One of my inspirations back then was Jared with his Subway nutrition to lose weight. Okay, I’m not a big fan of the veggie sandwiches, as I need my meat. What I got out of Jared’s experience was his consistency. He kept walking every day, ate healthy sandwiches every day, and you get the picture. There was nothing special about what Jared did. It was common sense, but he took action and stuck with it. That’s a problem I had all throughout my life.

Subway Nutrition

So with that idea of consistency in mind, I took action and got into the best shape of my life going into the college. Unfortunately, college brought me back to square one…

Taking My McDonalds Nutrition in Another Direction

College brought about many awesome learning opportunities and new experiences. With those novelties in my life, which consisted of a lot of partying, late night trips to the golden arches were quite frequent on weekend nights or on nights of lots of studying. Rather than following the balance I had before, where I would reduce the mayo, the amount of fries, or take off the bun, I would go all out with these binges. I’m not just talking about having a burger and fries. I’m talking about several cheeseburgers in a night.

Back then, I thought I was living the college dream, so I went along with it. You only get to experience that kind of lifestyle once. I just let things slide. Honestly, I don’t regret it.

Easing into Proper McDonalds and Subway Nutrition

You only live once, so why deny yourself of the awesome food that’s out there? I’m a big advocate of working out and staying in shape, so I knew there was a better way of balancing things. In high school, the only reason things really worked out for me was because I was really strict about my Subway and McDonalds nutrition. That’s just not a long term way to go about things. You’re setting yourself up for failure and unhappiness.

McDonalds Nutrition

My junior year, I started reading about different diets, the first one being the Zone Diet by Barry Sears. His emphasis was all about controlling the portions you ate, and simplifying the portion tracking by assigning “blocks” to different amounts of food. That way, you don’t need to go crazy with counting calories.

Things worked okay but not to the results I was expecting. During the week, I was eating really healthy, and when it came time for the weekend, I would party my face off and my gut off with 30 racks of Keystone Light haha. Then finish things off with chips or some late night McDonalds nutrition.

For lunch, I would always go for the really fattening Subway nutrition choices, putting too much mayo and cheese on my sandwiches.

By the end of my senior year, I had a good idea of what kind of nutrition would work for me, so I decided to finish strong with my college lifestyle, as I knew I would reinvent myself post-college.

Post-College Changes

Once college was over, I joined the local CrossFit gym, as I was already doing these varied workouts at school, following the official CrossFit main site. I wanted to learn all the lifts and movements properly, so I knew I needed the proper training and consultation provided by a legit CrossFit box (what we call our gyms). A few months in, there was a nutritional challenge.

Let’s just say after that challenge, my life changed.

For about two months, I was driven to stay perfect. I didn’t eat anything that wasn’t considered “Paleo.” This kind of nutrition is generally natural foods that can be hunted or gathered, similar to the nutritional lifestyle of people from the Paleolithic period.

From about 170 pounds, I dropped down to 155 in that two month period. It was awesome and I felt better than ever. However, because I was so strict with my nutrition, it led to a relapse if you want to call it that.

I Lost My Consistency

Yep, I lost the consistency that I learned from Jared’s Subway nutrition. After the gym’s challenge, I thought it was okay to have junk food here and there, but because of my lack of self-control, I developed many bad habits.
While I have been very consistent with my CrossFit workouts, pretty much not missing a day in the schedule, my nutrition has been really off the past few months. That’s why I started this blog to give myself some public accountability so I can lose weight again.

I just want to be consistent with eating healthy most of the time, while balancing things out with some Subway and delicious McDonalds nutrition here and there. It’s all about planning things out properly.

Forget Waiting for the New Year (h3)

I’m starting now. My plan is to stay strict with my eating every day of the week aside from Saturdays. After my workout on Saturday mornings, I’ll treat myself to some Subway, McDonalds, or anything else I really love. This won’t be a setback to my progress as long as I stay consistent with everything else – Paleo and CrossFit.

How I Will Reach My Goals?

For nutrition, aside from my fast food enjoyment of some McDonalds and Subway once in a while, I’ll be eating Paleo. As I said before, this involves natural foods that can only be hunted or gathered. You can find more information about the Paleo diet here.

It’s seriously the best diet for me, and it’s something I can definitely stick to on a long term basis. At first, it’s rough because my body is so used to all the complex carbs I would normal take in on a daily basis. I know that it’s the best thing for me, so I’m going to stick with it.

To help with muscle development, I’ll also be utilizing the LeanGains mentality of intermittment fasting. I’ll be posting a more detailed write-up on the LeanGains protocol, but basically I’ll be limiting my eating to only an 8 hour window in the day, with the rest of the day as a fast. This should help me curve off those cravings that have been bothering me for years.

Since I’ve really been in the groove at my gym lately, I’ll ramp things up to working out 5 times a week instead of 4 times a week. My CrossFit gym has workout programming offered every day of the week to accommodate for everyone’s different schedules, but the recommended schedule is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday on, Thursday off, Friday and Saturday on, and Sunday off. This works perfectly with my schedule for the week, so I’m going with that.

With CrossFit, I would really love to improve a lot in 2012. My main goal is to gradually build up to doing the workouts with the Rx (as prescribed) weight intended for the programming. At my current ability, I’m using a weight that’s a little over the women’s Rx, which is already pretty heavy when you’re dealing with a bunch of reps.

Living Close to my Favorite Fast Food Joints

Of course, I’ll have to resist indulging in McDonalds nutrition often, as there’s one restaurant pretty much right by my house. If I wanted to, I could actually walk there. And believe it or not, it’s a much shorter walk to get in my Subway nutrition fix as well.

I have goals in mind and I really have to stick with them. One of the biggest factors I have to overcome is my lack of discipline when it comes to what I eat. So what I have to do is keep my fast food eating to only Saturdays after my CrossFit workout. Especially with heavy lifting days at the gym, the added carb sources shouldn’t be too much of as issue as my body has to refuel and repair all the muscle breakdown from the workout. Sure, I can’t do this after every heavy workout I do, but it’s a great way to break the cycle of eating clean.

Why Do I Want to Do This?

Well the truth is, I really want to impress this girl…JUST KIDDING. Nope, I’m doing this for myself. Throughout my life, my weight has fluctuated like a rollercoaster. At least now, I have my working out dialed in and consistent. I know as a fact that getting my nutrition down will change my world again. I’ll never forget that Paleo challenge I did at my gym a year ago. It seemed like I was a brand new person, and workouts, while still very challenging and demanding, didn’t make me feel as close to death as I usually do when my diet is out of whack.

When my nutrition is spot-on, everything else in my life pretty much comes together. I feel awesome all throughout the day, I don’t have to rely upon coffee to get through the later hours of my work, and it’s like I want to hit my goals for everything in life. That’s how awesome the Paleo nutrition really is for me. I feel like a machine when all the pieces are in place.

Also, I want to prove to people that you can still get into really good shape while eating the foods you love every once in a while. As I’ve mentioned, it’s all about that balance. Since everyone’s bodies are different, finding that “formula” for nutritional balance will vary. It’s up to you to take action and experiment. That’s what I’ll be doing with my blog entries on this site. I’ll go through the basics of what I do to test things out, so hopefully all of my readers out there like you guys will get an idea of how you can conduct your own nutritional tests to find your balance.

Life’s too short, and I’m the kind of person who absolutely loves food. I grew up enjoying really good food thanks to my parents who love to cook and eat. Our family activities pretty much revolve around food, so we can’t help it. To completely eliminate the aspect of delicious food from my life would pretty much be like rejecting my family values. That’s how important food is in our lives.

I understand that many of you are in a similar situation, which is one of the many reasons I wanted to start this blog. Dealing with your weight and nutrition is not easy, as I know personally from all my ups and downs. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. While you can lose weight quickly with some harsh workout and dieting methods, those won’t keep the weight off of you for the long term.

Through this blog, I’ll show you guys how to maintain a fun and fulfilling lifestyle while staying in the best shape of your life. If you’re a fast foodie like me, imagine life without McDonalds nutrition or Subway nutrition? Where’s the fun in that?
